President of the NOC, Engr. Habu Gumel made the promise in Abuja, while giving a key note address at the 2016 Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF stakeholders forum holding at the Package B of the National Stadium.
“I am confident that the performance of our team that won the AfroBasket 2015 in Rio will be great. The players have shown that with determination anything can be achieved. I look forward to their kind of zeal spread to the other teams and athletes that will make the team to Games.
“With the way our preparations are going, I have the belief that we’ll win medals that will make Nigerians proud of us. Basketball is doing greatly far better than Volleyball which is my own sport.
“We need private sector participation to help develop sports in Nigeria. Government cannot develop sports on its own because it needs to partners to make our sports better.”
Meanwhile, the National Sports Commission, NSC under the Youth and Sports Ministry had been scrapped out rightly.
A hint to this effect was made public by the President of the Nigeria Tennis Federation, Engr. Sani Ndanusa at the Nigeria Basketball Federation in Abuja while making opening remarks during the meeting.
Ndanusa while commending the NBBF’s success story of 2015 stated that the sports ministry was very proud of the D’ Tigers winning the AfroBasket 2015 that had made Nigeria proud.
“We thank D’ Tigers for making Nigeria proud at the AfroBasket 2015 and that has made the NSC sorry the Ministry of Youth and Sports the talk of the town and now they are going to the Olympic Games.”
