Fayose has repositioned education in Ekiti, says aide

THE effort by Governor Ayodele Fayose to re-position education in Ekiti State is already yielding results, Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to Governor Fayose, Mr. Idowu Adelusi has
said.
The CPS made this assertion as Ekiti students’ performance in last year’s West African Examinations Council (WAEC) improved with the state clinching the 11th position out of the 36 states of the federation.

Disclosing that 37 per cent of the candidates had no fewer than five credit passes including English Language and Mathematics, Adelusi said that the state presented a total of 13,690 candidates for the public examinations taken by final year secondary school students in English-speaking countries in West Africa.

Speaking in an interview in Ado-Ekiti yesterday, Adelusi expressed pleasure that the efforts of the Fayose administration in the sector were yielding positive results, saying the jump from 35th position to the 11th, a little over a year after the assumption of office by the governor was remarkable.

Said he: “There is no doubt that Governor Ayodele Fayose is a lover of education. He was the first to organise Education Summit in the state in 2003 that moved the state to seventh position in WAEC examinations in the nation and number one in the South West. He came again and boosted teachers’ morale by celebrating them during their annual day.

“Also, the state government has paid the sum of N411.7m to 5,130 teachers as core subjects and rural allowances to teachers. This is to motivate teachers handling core subjects and those in rural and far-flung schools that are difficult to staff. The state is doing this to motivate the teachers and not to deny students in rural schools quality education,” he said.
