Princess Diana's edible wedding cake set to sell for $4k after 34 years

A 34-year-old slice of fruit cake is set to sell for a staggering $4000- because it is from the wedding of Prince Charles and Princess Diana.
Despite being made 34 years ago, the cake has been perfectly preserved thanks to the high level of alcohol in it and is still edible - but its value comes from the fact that it is still intact.
A note accompanying the presentation box reads: “With best wishes from Their Royal Highnesses, The Prince & Princess of Wales”.
Incredibly, it is now set to sell at Nate D. Sanders auctioneers.

Sam Heller, from the auction house, said:
“The wedding of Lady Diana and Prince Charles captured the attention of the world on television and through many newspapers and magazines.
“And even today, people just can not get enough of the late Princess. “Alcohol has preserved the cake making it still edible, although collectors would rather it remain intact.
“Collectors are willing to pay a premium to own a piece of history from the most famous wedding of the 20th century.”
The auction will be held in Los Angeles on Thursday, Dec 17th.
