Many have blamed the ‘dwindle’ in the entertainment industry on the
political activities that occupied the early months of the year and the
socioeconomic realities of the nation in the following months.
Whatever the case, a little controversy here and there is ideal and somewhat an integral part of the entertainment industry both in Nigeria and around the world. We love it. It makes the soft sell magazines shift more units, it gives us enough to ruminate over on social media and it keeps the gossip blogs active.
It’s been interesting seeing some of the popular celebrity figures bounce back from their controversies throughout the course of the year. And as we gear up for the New Year 2016, we take a look at 2015 and examine some of the most controversial news and the celebrities who were involved in making such news.
In no particular order, we have:
1. Kwam 1 And The Shooting Allegation
Hell was let loose on Sunday October
11, when Kofoworola Azeez, a student of Business Education department
from Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago Iwoye, was allegedly shot by
one of the aides of the popular Fuji musician, Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde
Anifowose, popularly known as KWAM 1 during his musical show in Ago
Iwoye.
The incident occurred at the popular Limelite Hotel in Ago Iwoye in Ijebu North local government area of the state, owned by a socialite, Sesan Rufai.
The incident, our correspondent gathered led to serious commotion, which resulted in abrupt ending of the event.
An eyewitness account told our correspondent that the lady was hit by a bullet, allegedly shot around 1:00am by one of the ‘boys’ of the KWAM 1.
The source further stated that the lady was in an unregistered Honda Accord car belonging to an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence, NSCDC, identified as Hassan Afeez, which was parked around the party venue.
Our correspondent reliably gathered that the party was organised to mark the Ago-Iwoye day celebration.
The lady was subsequently taken to the General Hospital, Ijebu-Ode for treatment.
The bullet was said to have entered through the side of the rear door of the car, hitting the victim at her right lower buttock.
2. Tonto Dikeh Debt Saga
The actress is not a stranger to controversies and she had a fair share in 2015.
Following the issue with celebrity stylist Toyin Aimhaku who leveled several allegations of debt and dishonesty on her, one would expect her to at least steer clear from any such issue and avoid the drama in its wake. But Tonto Dikeh was yet again involved in a case of indebtedness after she acquired some fashion items from a personal shopper who goes by the name Pear Chuks.
Dikeh was accused of buying items worth N192, 000 but failed to pay up as promised which led to a series of name-calling on social media.
3. Emeka Ike And Wife
In July, 2015, Emeka Ike and wife Emma made the news for all the
wrong reasons when issues of domestic abuse and maltreatment in their
marriage became public.
Emma subsequently asked a Lagos Island customary court to dissolve their 12-year-old marriage, saying she could no longer bear being tortured.
At the hearing on Wednesday, July 22, the actor failed to show up.
According to The Nation, his counsel, Abdul’Hakeem Labi-Lawal, stated that Emeka was not in court because he was ill.
4. Timaya And Shella B Rape Scandal
In July, 2015 a lady named Shella B based in Atlanta, USA accused
dancehall star Timaya of raping her and the news got even bigger in the
media after she shared messages from the singer in which he allegedly
threatened to kill her.
5. Toyin Aimakhu And Husband
Sometime in October, 2015 Toyin Aimakhu shared a post on her
Instagram account which revealed the true state of her relationship with
now estranged husband Adeniyi Johnson.
Johnson also posted some messages on the internet wherein he alluded to the relationship and the fact that all wasn’t well between the couple.
Before long, fan and critics became aware of the relationship and all the sour details which would have been better kept under wraps.

artist Skiibii made the news for what appears to be a failed PR stunt.

In
early December 2015, the musician’s wife, Precious Jones, brought the
couple’s affairs into pubic glare as she accused him of battery in the
marriage, as well as insulting her parents and whatnot.
Three weeks after, the rapper broke his silence and addressed the issue saying: ““I leave everything for God, time will tell the truth. Merry Christmas, Love and peace out.”

singer Cynthia Morgan wherein she was seen carrying a baby and puffing a

Many people reacted negatively to the act including actress Caroline Danjuma who condemned the singer openly in a message she shared on her Instagram account.
9. Denrele Edun As Nigeria’s ‘Caitlyn Jenner’
In September, 2015, the TV host released some unusual pictures in
which he called himself the Nigerian Caitlyn Jenner, following the buzz
garnered by American transgender of the Keeping up with the Kardashians
fame.
“As I have been fondly tagged ‘Nigeria’s Caitlyn Jenner without transgender money’ for months now….I present to you; Nigeria’s Caitlyn Jenner with NO NEED for transgender surgery,” he captioned the images.
10. Burna Boy And His Empty Threats
For all his rants on Twitter about plans to kill any blogger who
writes negative stuff about him in May, 2015, dancehall star Burna Boy
earned himself more points in the score sheet for being outlandish and
controversial.
Critics from several quarters have held that if the man focused more on music than on being controversial then there is no limit ti what he might achieve with his art.
