Sport Gist: Aguero fit to face liverpool

Sergio Aguero has handed Manchester City a major fitness boost ahead of Saturday's clash with Liverpool, manager Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed.

The proflific striker has missed the last six weeks with the hamstring injury he picked up on international duty playing for Argentina agains Ecuador at the start of October.

Aguero has missed the last seven matches but in his absence City have retained the leadership of the Premier League - on goal difference from Arsenal - qualified for the Champions League last 16 and reached the League Cup quarter-finals, but his return Aguero represents a major shot in the arm.

"Sergio is fit, he’s ready to come back," said Pellegrini of the 27-year-old, who scored five goals against Newcastle on his last appearance for his club.

But the Chilean also revealed that David Silva, who was injured 24 hours after Aguero, and Vincent Kompany, who pulled out of the Belgium squad with a calf injury last week, will miss out.

Wilfried Bony, who limped out of the goalless draw at Aston Villa at the start of November, and Samir Nasri, who revealed on Instagram this week that he will be out for three months, are also unavailable.

"David continues with some small pain in his ankle, so I think it’s a risk for him to play. Unfortunately also Samir Nasri is injured, also Wilfried Bony and Vincent Kompany."
