FOC Opinion: P-Square split now looking like a joke

The circus going on between Peter and Paul Okoye is now becoming a farce.

Yesterday (March 14, 2016) Peter Okoye announced that he is under new management. The 34-year-old star also revealed his new name Mr. P. In the history of bad stage names Peter Okoye’s new name has to be in it.

Peter Okoye unveils new stage name, management

Yeah surely he can’t use the name Peter Okoye because of contractual reasons but surely he could have come up with a name better than that. Mr. P sounds very horrible for a celebrity of Peter Okoye’s stature.
The Okoye feud continued later in the day when Paul Okoye released a new song poorly titled ‘Call heaven’. In the song Paul Okoye touches on the breakup, and the death of his parents. The song was filled with sobs from the musical genius of P-Square. It was odd, very odd.
Paul Okoye - 'Call heaven'
I think a lot of people are sighing right about now. The drama between the Okoye brothers is starting to look like a farce, a sad comedy involving Nigeria’s most successful pop duo, a comedy of tears. The back and forth between both brothers have made some suggest that this is a stunt. If this is true, then it is in poor taste which will most likely back fire on them.

If this is not a stunt of poor taste, then it is a ridiculous case of sibling rivalry. Yes, Peter Okoye and Paul Okoye might be successful as solo acts but they won’t be bigger than they were as P-Square. They won’t be bigger celebrities. They should face this reality before splitting their fortune into two parts or is it three because if Jude Okoye?

The Jackson 5
Nothing lasts forever. If The Jackson 5 could break up, then P-Square can break up. Based of their last album public interest in the P-Square brand has waned. Peter and Paul are legends no doubt fans are now interested in the Wizkids and Davidos.

The reactions on Twitter show that people don't care if they have broken up. Pop culture is moving away from them. They probably should drop a Greatest Hits album and call it a day. After the great fall of Mo' Hits in 2012 Nigerians could care less about who separates or not.

P-Square
If P-Square have truly called it quits they should give their fans a concert to end their legendary run, and not a series of controversies. If they have broken up they should so without all the telenovela emotions and plot twists. We can all do without all the drama because we do not care.
