At a press conference after he was hospitalized, the Nye County sheriff confirmed the former NBA star would potentially face drug charges. Local authorities obtained a search warrant to get a blood sample to be tested by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police lab.

Nearly three months later, the Nye County District
Attorney’s Office is declining to press formal charges and prosecute the
case “based on the present evidence and surrounding circumstances.”
"Odom
did indeed had metabolized cocaine in his system while he was present
in Nye County in October of 2015 but he was not found in the possession
of cocaine and it is unlikely it could established beyond a reasonable
doubt he actually ingested, or was impaired by, the drug during the time
he was within the jurisdiction of Nye County.” a spokesperson said in a statement on January 11.
Odom has however been released from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los
Angeles where he's been receiving treatment since October 2015.. The
basketball player will now continue his recovery at a rehab center,
where he’ll be working on his physical mobility, as well as his speech
and memory issues. It still remains to be seen how extensive any brain
damage may have been.
