Sacked senator’s outbursts against Umeh unfortunate –Umeh’s aide

Senior Special Adviser (Media) to former national chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Victor Umeh, has described comments by Senator Uche Ekwunife against his principal as unfortunate and unwarranted.

In a statement in Enugu, Mr. Stan Okeke wondered how and when the senator, whose election was recently nullified by the Court of Appeal, became the mouthpiece of former president Goodluck Jonathan.

Okeke said the former president has a retinue of staff and a spokesman and, therefore, does not need the services of Ekwunife for his defence over statements Umeh made about his conduct during the 2015 general election.

“She is not Jonathan’s mouthpiece. It is not in her domain to protect Jonathan on any issue. We wonder when it became her beat to speak for the former president, unless, of course, she is confirming that she benefitted from the Jonathans during that ill-fated Anambra central senatorial election,” Okeke said.

Furthermore, Umeh’s media aide said it was rather unfortunate that Ekwunife, who hails from Nri Kingdom, the custodians of Igbo culture and tradition, should descend to the low level of constantly abusing an Igbo high chief and a respected one at that.

“In Igboland, it is a taboo for a woman to insult a man, not to talk of a titled man and herself being privileged to be a custodian of an Igbo title, should know the implications of her actions and the crime of this man so blatantly abused by Ekwunife is that he is resolute to give his people quality representation at the Senate,” Okeke maintained.

He advised Ekwunife to desist from this unbecoming attitude and face the reality of the fact that there will be a rerun of an election that she was awarded victory by the tribunal.
