OAU Crisis: Varsity management bans student union government

Obafemi Awolowo University
Due to the ongoing crisis at the Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, the school management has hitherto banned the Student Union Government, PremiumTimes has reported.

This is in relation to the reports that the students have refused to go on the mid-semester break as directed by the authorities. The management, in a bid to curtail the protest action by the students, had directed that the school be shut down indefinitely. The students were reportedly protesting the terrible state of hostels in the school, among other problems.

According to a statement on Thursday issued by the university’s Registrar, Mr. D.A Awoyemi, some students were planning to cause trouble in the institution and so the activities of the union has been suspended till further notice.

The activities of the union is hereby suspended till further notice,” the statement said.
“It has come to our notice that some students are yet to go home, a refusal to comply with these directives shall be regarded as violation of the university rules and regulation in general.

The Secretary General of the union, Oketooto Oluwaseun, said the Union is yet to react.

We are in a meeting right now to discuss this latest development , though it is not acceptable,” he said.
