Skiibii’s career is dead. Perhaps
that might be too strong a word, but from feedback on social media, it
resurrected from the dead with its owner who pulled a Lazarus on his
fans, the media, the public, and every other Nigerian and pop culture
aficionado.
Five Star Music and there PR team made up of Kcee (?) a frail-looking Skiibii (???) a silent boss E-Money (Where is he?), and the fall-guy or as the Holy book called him Soso ‘Judas Iscariot’ Soberekon
(????) have all come together to dig themselves out of the self-imposed
career death and derision they put on Skiibii and their company.
Their efforts at cleaning up the mess is laudable,
but the manner in which it has been done, plays out like some poorly
scripted movie.
If you say Skiibii is ill, and his death-claim was precipitated by a collapsing episode,
then why subject a man who had just escaped the jaws of the afterlife,
to gruelling media rounds? This is pure Nollywood material. It makes no
sense.
Although the effort is good, there are certain specifics from it that keeps people from totally believing the story.
Let’s face it, Skiibii’s career is dead, but it can
be revived the right way. The right way being a more professional
approach to handling this. First there are holes in all the stories that
have come out of Five Star Music.
Kcee is on a
roll, desperately singing like a bird to every media house who would
afford him the opportunity. But his lines don’t add up. Apart from
saying he was in Norway during the death of Skiibii, and blaming it on
some illness, he contradicts himself when he told Wazobia that manager,
and mastermind of the affair, Soso Soberekon, has been fired,
only to hit Cool FM to change that to indefinite suspension. He is
passing a message, but that message needs to be singular in delivery and
content. Consistency Kcee, consistency!
Who made Kcee the media executive of Five Star Music?
A label of their standing ought to have a spokesperson paid for this
job. Kcee clearly lacks the skills, and it is glaring to all who behold.
He needs to step aside and let a professional handle this job. There
appears to be no clear line of communication from within the house. That
is bad.
Soso Soberekon, the fall-guy has taken responsibility. How noble and strong of him to admit his error in public. You have to admire his guts and character.
"I’m offering my unreserved apology to everyone,
especially Linda Ikeji, all Media houses, Friends, fans, the entire
"Five Star Music Group" and the general public.” Soberekon said today on Instagram.
“I
accept full responsibility and this fell short of the high standard
that I have always maintained within the industry, thus the reason why I
offer this apology. Going forward, such sensitive situations would be better dealt with.”
This
is a step in the right direction. Soso’s apology is nice and fair, but
it isn’t enough. What needs to done is simple. A clear letter of apology
from the label, offering credible explanation of the events would have
been better.
Soso Soberekon will not be suspended
for long. He is the most important strategic man in Five Star Music.
With his vast experience in not just artiste management, but also talent
development, A&R, and music production, it will be a great loss to
the label to cut him loose over this incident. It’s just a death scare.
No failure is absolute.
Five Star Music also needs a proper pressman to
handle their relationship with the media. This mistake cannot be
repeated. Never again.
Skiibii needs to stay at home for now, until this mess is cleaned, and the next big story comes to take his place in the media. Two weeks is enough time for this. Then he needs a strong comeback single to remind people of his talents, and a video to entertain. Let face his job as a singer. The rest will fall back in line.
